The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA Tanzania) has underscored the need for reconciliation in order to build a better Tanzania—one that upholds peace, unity, and social cohesion.
As the nation continues to comfort Tanzanians, including journalists, who suffered various forms of hardship during the election period, the organization is calling on political parties, faith-based institutions, the media, civil society groups, and citizens to pursue dialogue and national reconciliation as a means to heal the wounds experienced.
Delivering this statement on behalf of the institution on November 7, 2025, the Chairperson of MISA Tanzania, Edwin Soko, stressed the importance of strengthening the foundations of justice, freedom, and peace in the country.
“It is difficult to comprehend or accept the events that occurred during and after the October 29, 2025 general election. These incidents caused emotional, psychological, and physical harm to Tanzanians. Some families lost their loved ones, others are caring for the injured, and many lost property and businesses. Additionally, citizens were deprived of their constitutional right to access information through the media and digital communication channels,” Soko said.
He added that MISA Tanzania stands in solidarity with all affected citizens, offering condolences to families who lost loved ones and wishing a quick recovery to all the injured. He further emphasized the need to protect the right to access information, noting that some of those affected were journalists.
